醫療團團長、國泰綜合醫院耳鼻喉科醫師王文弘說明，所謂「自然孔」是指肛門、陰道、口鼻等部位，手術經人體自然孔道出入就不需另從體表開刀，達到真正體表無痕的手術境界。而經口腔路徑是甲狀腺手術發展上一重大突破，手術時會先在病人口腔下唇處打三個小洞，往下沿著皮下通道到達甲狀腺處，接著使用超音波刀將腫瘤逐漸分離，再從口腔取出腫瘤，而這項新式手術因受限於內視鏡器械，加上經自然孔道出入，手術空間狹小，因此相當考驗醫師的手術醫療實力。

王文弘醫師提到，Labasa Hospital雖然是斐濟全國第三大醫院以及北島唯一的醫院，不過缺乏受過專業訓練的放射線科醫師，且檢查機器老舊，其所擁有的單切電腦斷層顯影後影像幾乎無法分辨血管、腫瘤及周邊軟組織，此次應院方要求派遣放射線科醫師和放射師前往，除藉由調整檢查作法，以改善電腦斷層影像品質，也介紹可應用在當地的鼻竇電腦斷層攝影，未來也將邀請當地放射線科醫師到台灣觀摩學習，期望將來能造福更多當地病患。
